Selection Criteria of Gram Panchayats

Panchayats were selected on the basis of the following criteria: (i) areas with soil erosion intensity—soil erosion intensity was derived from such parameters as geographical conditions, land use, flow discharge, records and evidence of past sediment movement, and disaster records, and has been established during detailed planning by definite, quantitative indicators—(ii) areas of open and degraded government forests, (iii) communities’ willingness to participate, and (iv) poverty—defined by definite, quantitative indicators.
